Comic-Con poster gallery

First Showing has a gallery of all the posters featured at Comic-Con. Here are a few of my favorite ones:

Sweeney Todd poster

Sweeney Todd (dir. Tim Burton) – It’s no secret to my friends that I’m a huge fan of both Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. I’ve loved pretty much everything they’ve done together (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory was somewhat sub-par), and this looks like it will probably crack the top three list of best Burton-Depp collaborations. This is one bad-ass poster.

Watchmen poster

Watchmen (dir. Zack Snyder) – This poster just screams, “We’re going to do the graphic novel justice.” Yeah, I know that’s a pretty lame thing to go around screaming, and your friends would probably laugh at you if you yelled that in public, but this poster can do whatever it wants.

Cloverfield poster

Cloverfield/1-18-08 (dir. Matt Reeves) – The marketing team for this film is working hard to create a sense of mystery around this film, and they’re succeeding. Not much is known about this upcoming monster flick from producer J.J. Abrams (“Lost”), but from the teaser trailer and this poster, it’s sure to be a great ride.

‘Watchmen’ details, poster emerge

Watchmen poster

One of the most anticipated movies now in production is Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, based on the legendary graphic novel by Alan Moore. After Snyder’s surprise hit with 300, another comic book adaptation, all eyes have been focused on this decidedly more ambitious effort. Anyway, new details have merged, as has a poster (above).

We now have a partial cast: Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Patrick Wilson.

Also, an official site, which contains the synopsis:

A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” — which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union — is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion — a ragtag group of retired superheroes only one of whom has true powers — Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity … but who is watching the watchmen?

Expect this film out in March 2009.
